Another day, another Suarez story. With him scheduled to join up with the squad next week though, surely something has to give soon. Oh, and there’s news on Bernard and Downing, two very different players.
As we reported earlier this morning on This Is Anfield, the Luis Suarez transfer saga could be about to get a whole lot more messy.
His agents have reportedly urged his suitors to put in their offers of £40million to tempt Liverpool to give in to selling the 26-year-old Urugayan international.
The Telegraph, Times and Daily Mail all report that Liverpool are interested in 20-year-old Brazilian winger Bernard, but could face a battle signing him.
Having lost out to Borussia Dortmund in the race to sign Armenian international midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, the Reds could miss out on the likes of Bernard too, unable to offer the world’s elite footballers Champions League football.
The Telegraph write:
Bernard has a release clause of around £20 million, but the South American is wanted by several Champions League clubs, Arsenal believed to be among them.
Meanwhile The Telegraph also say that Reds winger Stewart Downing has declined the opportunity to move to Sam Allardyce’s West Ham in favour of fighting for his place at Liverpool.
Just last week, amid the speculation linking him with a move to Upton Park, Downing spoke of his excitement to compete with a larger squad for first team places at Anfield next season.
