Liverpool FC Transfer Deadline Day – LIVE!

Welcome to the Liverpool FC Transfer Deadline Day live feed! There’s no Jim White here, just us, telling you exactly what’s happened throughout the day.

Live Updates

23:06 GOOD NIGHT!

Thank you for being with us throughout the day. Literally hundreds of thousands of you read the liveblog at one stage or another. There’s still a few more transfers to go through (officially). Liverpool conducted their transfers calmly and efficiently. Well done Brendan and co. See you in January!

Read our transfer deadline day review here.

23:00 TRANSFER WINDOW CLOSED

And that’s it. We’ve made it. 11pm and the end of a roller coaster of a transfer window for Liverpool. The main points:

  • Luis Suarez is still a Liverpool player.
  • Liverpool have signed 8 new players.
  • Liverpool have sold 8 players.
  • Liverpool have loaned out 10 players.

Read all the summer’s ins and outs of Anfield here.

  • 22:51 THE FINAL COUNTDOWN

We’re into the final 10 minutes of the summer transfer window. Liverpool’s business done and dusted. Down the road though, Everton could be on the verge of signing James McCarthy from Wigan, Gareth Barry from Man City and Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea.

    22:42 FLURRY

Gareth Barry has arrived at Everton ahead of a potential last minute move from Manchester City. Romelu Lukaku could be joining him as the Toffees compete with West Brom for a loan move for him. All transfer rumours surround Man Utd seem to have cooled since the Hererra deal fell through (see 22:04). Tottenham‘s Tom Carroll should be joining QPR before the deadline.

    22:30 HALF AN HOUR LEFT

West Brom have signed Stéphane Sessègnon for around £6million. 30 minutes left of the summer transfer window. Ian Ayre says Liverpool’s deals are over. The rest of the Premier League‘s might be too. Only the whereabouts of Romelu Lukaku is still to be decided – West Brom or Everton?

    22:27 OZIL SIGNS FOR GUNNERS

Arsenal have finally completed the signing of German international midfielder Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for a reported fee of £42.5million. Arsene Wenger: “I am absolutely delighted.”

    22:24 ELSEWHERE

West Brom are still hopeful of signing Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea, whilst French newspaper L’Equipe say the Blues’ Juan Mata could still end up at Paris St-Germain. Just under 40 minutes to go.

    22:20 ITALIAN BLACK CATS

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Tuesday, March 10, 2009: Liverpool's Andrea Dossena celebrates scoring his first, Liverpool's fourth goal, against Real Madrid during the UEFA Champions League First Knockout Round 2nd Leg match at Anfield. (Photo by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)
Former Liverpool left-back Andrea Dossena has joined Fabio Borini at Paulo Di Canio’s Sunderland. Borini will wear the number 31 shirt at the Stadium of Light.

    22:04 ELSEWHERE

Guillem Balague says Manchester United’s deal for Ander Herrera is “completely dead”. It has fallen through despite United officials turning up at Liga offices earlier trying to push it through. The Guardian are slamming United on their live feed: “This is ridiculous. What’s become of Manchester United’s professionalism? Sounds shambolic.”

    22:02 BORINI DEAL CONFIRMED

Liverpool and Sunderland have both confirmed the season-long loan move for forward Fabio Borini:

21:56 IAN AYRE CLOSES LIVERPOOL’S DEALINGS

    ianayre
Ian Ayre: “We have finished everything for this transfer window. We are very pleased with the players we’ve got.” Which must mean Villa didn’t giv-en to Given sale (get it?).

    21:52 INSERT GIVEN PUN

Shay Given hold up is a disagreement between Liverpool and Aston Villa on his wages. Villa want Liverpool to pay 100%, Liverpool don’t. It’s a stand-off. Stan Collymore backs up what we’re saying:

    21:35 LATEST

West Brom have scuppered Everton‘s hopes of signing Chelsea forward Lukaku on-loan. He’s on his way to the Hawthorns ahead of a proposed return to Steve Clarke’s team. Wigan chairman Dave Whelan says he has turned down Everton‘s bid for James McCarthy. Does that mean Fellaini will have to stay?

    21:29 MOVES

There could still be a few more moves for Premier League clubs to complete in the final hour and a half of the summer transfer window. Man Utd are still after Herrera (Athletic Bilbao) and possibly Fellaini. Everton are looking for deals for McCarthy (Wigan) and Lukaku (Chelsea – loan). Arsenal still to finalise details of Ozil (Real Madrid) deal. And Liverpool may still be in for Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given (see 21:03).

21:09 HAS COLLYMORE BEEN GIVEN INFO?

talkSPORT’s Stan Collymore has confirmed what we reported at 21:03 – that a late deal for Shay Given could still go through:

    21:03 SHAY GIVEN BACK ON?

BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND - Saturday, August 25, 2012: Aston Villa's goalkeeper Shay Given in action against Everton during the Premiership match at Villa Park. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)
We understand that Shay Given has been at Melwood for a while and a deal could still go through, but it is Aston Villa holding things back from going through.

    20:59 RODGERS AND KENNY

Nothing to do with the transfer window, but here’s Brendan Rodgers tonight wearing a rather fetching brown suede suit meeting King Kenny Dalglish at the Bill Shankly 100th birthday dinner.

    20:48 ELSEWHERE

Arsenal‘s deal for Mesut Ozil has still not been finalised. Marouane Fellaini has handed in a transfer request at Everton, but time is running out on him moving to Manchester Utd. Sky Sports’ Guillem Ballague says United may be given until midnight to push through a deal for Ander Herrera after encountering ‘bureaucratic problems’ (sound like Fergie time, anyone?). Demba Ba will not join Arsenal after Chelsea turned down their loan move offer.

    20:39 ELSEWHERE

    News regarding Chelsea strikers:

    20:16 AND CALM

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Tuesday, August 27, 2013: Liverpool's manager Brendan Rodgers during the Football League Cup 2nd Round match against Notts County at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)
It would seem Liverpool’s transfer activity for this summer’s transfer window is over. Mainly because we’ve not really heard anything since about lunchtime (apart from Dani Pacheco revealing he is leaving).

But also, because the Bill Shankly 100th Birthday dinner is in full swing, and Brendan Rodgers has told LFC TV: “It should be a good evening with all the signings done.”

    20:08 NOT A GIVEN

Sky Sports: “It is becoming increasingly unlikely that Shay Given will sign for Liverpool tonight.”

    20:01 ELSEWHERE

Man Utd officials reportedly went to Liga offices to pay the buy-out clause in Ander Herrera’s contract, however…

Meanwhile the Guardian’s Andy Hunter says, “Marouane Fellaini has just left Everton‘s Finch Farm training ground having handed in a transfer request to manager Roberto Martinez.”

    19:54 STORY SO FAR

The finishing line is (sort of) in sight. About another three hours of this to go. Here’s the done deals today regarding Liverpool:

  • Tiago Ilori to Liverpool
  • Mamadou Sakho to Liverpool
  • Victor Moses to Liverpool (on loan)
  • Fabio Borini to Sunderland (on loan)
  • Dani Pacheco to AD Alcoron
  • 19:46 BA

Everton have asked Chelsea about the availability of taking Romelu Lukaku on-loan (Guardian). Blues would much prefer to let him go to a small club than one of their rivals.

    19:40 ELSEWHERE

Chelsea have turned down loan offers from Arsenal and Tottenham for forward Demba Ba whilst there is a rumour spreading like wildfire regarding Romelu Lukaku joining Everton. And the most bizarre/cryptic tweet of the day…

    19:26 TEA TIME

Club officials around the country must be having their tea because there’s been a bit of a lull in news. Meanwhile, read Luis Suarez’s full quotes as he was pestered by press about his future on his arrival in Uruguay today.

    18:54 SHANKLY DINNER

The Bill Shankly 100th Birthday dinner begins shortly, to be attended by Liverpool club officials (including Brendan Rodgers). Transfer activity could stop here.

    18:54 ELSEWHERE

With just over four hours left of the transfer window, here’s what’s been happening outside Merseyside in the last hour or so:

Athletic Bilbao say Manchester United target Ander Herrera is not leaving today. Crystal Palace have signed defender Adrian Mariappa from Reading. Stephen Ireland has completed a season-long loan move to Stoke City from Aston Villa. Villa themselves have signed Libor Kozak from Lazio for around £5million. Goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano has signed on loan for Arsenal from Palma. Barry Bannan has signed for Crystal Palace from Aston Villa on a three-year contract.

    18:47 BRENDAN: ONE MORE SIGNING?

Brendan Rodgers just gave an interview to LFC TV saying the club still has their hopes for one more signing before the transfer window closes.

It’s most likely to be Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given on a season-long loan.

Interestingly, there’s been no murmur of Martin Skrtel leaving today, despite the signing of two central defenders this morning and Kolo Toure earlier in the summer.

    18:36 ANY NEWS?

The Liverpool Echo’s Neil Jones believes Shay Given may be the only arrival left to happen at Liverpool today.

    18:32 SUAREZ

Luis Suarez has arrived in Uruguay for international duty and reportedly told press, “I closed this subject [leaving] a while ago. I have already taken the decision to stay at Liverpool.”

    18:22 SHUSH!

    BTLKOsVCAAAuYqi
Sky Sports reporter Peter Stevenson angrily tells kids outside Melwood to “Shush!” as he tries to give us the same update he’s given us all day – that it “remains to be seen whether there’ll be any more activity at Liverpool”.

    18:04 ELSEWHERE

West Ham have joined Arsenal in the chase to sign Demba Ba on-loan from Chelsea (Ben Smith, BBC). Everton rejected a new £40million bid for Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini at the weekend (Andy Hunter, Guardian). Toffees target Fernando says he’s staying at Porto (Instagram). Man Utd have hit legal problems in their race to sign Ander Herrera (Guardian).

    Nothing new on Liverpool.

    16:25 ELSEWHERE

    15:20 DAVE WHELAN
