“We are capable of beating them all” – Liverpool fans react to Champions League group stage draw

Liverpool will take on Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli and Red Star Belgrade in Group C of the Champions League, and supporters produced a mixed reaction.

The draw for the group stage took place in Monaco on Thursday evening, as Jurgen Klopp and his players sat with bated breath waiting to hear who they will face.

All has now been revealed, with PSG, Napoli and Red Star standing between Klopp’s men and a place in the knockout stages.

It is one of the toughest-looking groups in the competition, but one that should provide us with some memorable clashes and Liverpool progressing.

Here’s how supporters reacted on social media and our forums, with opinion split over whether the Reds have been dealt a good hand or not.

Many were in bullish spirits, given how feared Liverpool are these days…

“Very happy. It’s a great draw for travelling fans. Apparently Belgrade is ‘the perfect place to enjoy the last of summer’ so I’m hoping the away leg is early on and not in December!

“From football perspective, we are capable of beating them all, there’s no reason we can’t win the group, but one draw and one defeat would still see us progress. Klopp will be happy there’s not too much travelling for his squad.”

“I wonder what PSG, Napoli and Red Star fans are saying right now?”

“Not easy but at least these teams will open up and attack us which plays into our hands. If we are on top of our game then we should get it done. Will be a great test of our defence.”

“All strong teams so I’m happy, against the stronger teams all players step up and they will want to play for a win which helps our style of play to flow.”

Baz Burke on Facebook.

“Before the draw I’d have taken Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan. Why should we fear any side in Europe after last season, and the start we’ve had this time out?

“This is similarly tough, and I’m still as confident as ever. We’ll top the group.”

– This Is Anfield’s Jack Lusby.

Others were wary of the Reds’ opponents, but still confident…

“Think we’ve been a bit unlucky with that draw. Well capable of topping the group but we definitely shouldn’t be underestimating PSG and Napoli. PSG have an elite forward line which is at least on a par with our own, they definitely worry me. However I am intrigued to see how Mbappe and Neymar cope at Anfield.”

“That’s a bit of a bugger but we do better as an underdog.”

“I wanted PSG before the draw. Tough group with them and Napoli mind.”
