Andre Wisdom set to swap Liverpool for Derby County on-loan

Liverpool are set to send defender Andre Wisdom on-loan to Derby County, according to a report in the Mirror today.

Wisdom, 20, had been tipped to be sent on loan to gain valuable regular football in the Championship at the end of the summer transfer window.

However, when Glen Johnson picked up a high ankle sprain in Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Manchester Utd earlier this season, the stops were put on Wisdom’s departure.

With Johnson back from injury, and Brendan Rodgers having trialed the likes of Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling in Liverpool’s right-wing-back position, the door looks open for Wisdom to leave.

The England Under-21 captain could spend the rest of the season on-loan at Pride Park and will join a number of Reds playing for other clubs this season.

The Mirror report:

McClaren made an approach for highly-rated Wisdom – who can play at right back or centre half – despite his side’s big win at Watford.

Wisdom has made 22 appearances for Liverpool’s first team, scoring 1 goal.

The move would also be seen as a sweetener for reported Liverpool target, Derby midfielder Will Hughes.

Derby are 8th in the Championship with 18 points from their first 12 games, having beaten Watford away 3-2 in their last game.

WISDOM to DERBY on loan would be a good move for the lad.I think this could be linked with a move/agreement to buy WILL HUGHES at some point.

hope if he goes on loan he gets game time ,wisdom as the potential to be a future lfc player ,hes still very young for a defender

Could this be oiling the wheels of the Will Hughes move indeed???, I reckon it does!!!
Will Hughes is a massive Liverpool fan, fact!!!.

    • Sash

I think you’re onto something Gano. Let’s hope so.

This is definitely a good move for both player and club. This young lad certainly has got potential. The only way to develop that potential is to have more playing time.

Interesting to see the Boston Red-Sox have made it to the World Series finals, after doing so in 2004 and 2007, FSG know how to get it done. Let’s hope it can rub-off onto Liverpool too!!!.

We’ll buy a RB before Wisdom gets back in the team, Rosales from FC Twente or Montoya maybe?

    • Abyss

Montoya would be frikkin awesome! Although we do need a top-class LB for the longer term.

Good move for Wisdom. I’m fairly certain he’s going to get regular game time at Derby. I personally feel we should be doing the same thing with Sterling over winter – people’s expectations have risen a bit too high with him and I think he doesn’t fit in to LFC’s squad too well at the moment. Lad needs a little less pressure and little more regular game time.

  • Abyss

Either RB or CB. Doubt Wisdom would be playing any other position.
