Rumour Mill: Liverpool to open talks over Piotr Zielinski

Liverpool will open talks over the transfer of Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski this week, according to a report on Sunday.

It’s claimed that the 21-year-old – who is currently on loan to Empoli from Napoli – has been scouted extensively by Liverpool in recent weeks and negotiations will begin this week.

Jurgen Klopp is said to “like his high energy style and believes it can fit into his Liverpool squad.”

A box-to-box midfielder, Zielinski has three goals and five assists in 27 appearances for Empoli in Serie A this season.

The 11-times capped Poland international was first linked with a move to Anfield in January and is heavily linked with a move to Merseyside this summer – likely replacing Joe Allen in the squad.

Reports then suggested he would cost around £11 million.

Our scout report on Zielinski described him as “a nimble, technically gifted midfielder most at home in the middle of the park, but capable of operating on either wing and in a supporting role behind the strikers.”

Liverpool already have deals for Marko Grujic and Joel Matip secured for the summer and Klopp has recently spoken about planning for the summer now as he reshapes his squad in his first pre-season in charge.
