Bellamy begins Anfield talks

Wales striker Craig Bellamy is set to start talks with Liverpool over a proposed £6million transfer to Anfield from Ewood Park this summer.

Blackburn Rovers have given Liverpool permission to talk to the 26-year-old who scored 17 goals last season.

It is thought that Reds boss Rafael Benitez has taken advantage of a buy-out clause in Bellamy’s contract with Rovers and hopes to lure him to Anfield to be Peter Crouch’s strike partner next season.

Blackburn chairman John Williams confirmed, “We have made it crystal clear to Craig and his advisers that we want him at Ewood Park.

“We made him an improved offer before Liverpool declared their interest, one that was consistent with our ambition.”

It is believed that the buy-out clause expires on June 30th.
