Fowler update

Reds boss Rafael Benitez has revealed that he pleased with how striker Robbie Fowler is maintaining his fitness during pre-season and is on course for a good 2006/07 campaign.

After re-signing for the club in January, Fowler struggled to get his fitness up after some time out of action due to injury. But Liverpool’s number nine appears to have worked very hard to get his fitness levels up and show his commitment to the club.

Fowler has played in both of Liverpool’s pre-season friendys so far, setting up goals in each ‘“ for Craig Bellamy in the 2-0 victory at Wrexham last weekend, and Craig Lindfield’s impressive effort against Crewe on Saturday.

A happy Benitez said, “It’s really important for him to be fit in pre-season because that could be the key to him enjoying a successful season.

“He has been training really hard. His movement, quality with the ball and vision is there for all to see. He can also score goals so it’s really important that he stays fit.”
