Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez is expected to leave it late before deciding whether Jamie Carragher and John Arne Riise will be fit to play into tomorrow’s 204th Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
The game is another early kick-off for the Reds ‘“ a 12.45pm start ‘“ and it was initially thought that both Carragher and Riise would both be ruled out of action.
But after missing international duty, both players resumed training on Thursday morning and will undergo late fitness tests before Benitez decides to play them.
“All the players want to play and they say they are all 100 per cent fit when maybe they are only 50 per cent so I will have to decide who starts in the derby,” said Benitez.
“We have a crazy schedule of games when for the next 12 to 13 weeks we are playing two games a week so that is why having a big squad of players is so important at a top club like Liverpool.”
