3 weeks later and still no news

The transfer window closed three weeks ago. Liverpool signed Javier Mascherano from West Ham 3 weeks ago. The world’s governing body, FIFA, sanctioned the move shortly after the January deadline.

The wonderful folk at the English FA are yet to approve the transfer though. Thursday’s Guardian reports that it will now be next week (yes almost a month after the move was finalised with all other parties) before a decision is made.

“The Premier League‘s legal department is poring over details of the contracts between the Argentina international and his representatives to investigate whether there has been any breach of the Premier League‘s regulations over player ownership. Sources claim that so complex are the reams of paperwork that the league is not ready to announce its verdict and might not be in a position to do so until next week.”

Just exactly what are the legal department poring over, its taken long enough. I wonder if we will be able to claim compensation for all the games Mascherano has been ineligible for us for now seeing as the muppets at the FA are taking so long? You never know, we might get a decision on that by the time he retires.
