The Champions League draw on Friday morning was kind to Liverpool, pairing them with PSV Eindhoven and also giving them home advantage in the second leg.
However, if the Reds see off the Dutch side, and Chelsea defeat Valencia in their quarter final, the two sides will face each other in a repeat of the 2004-05 semi final.
All three English sides avoided each other as Man United were drawn with AS Roma and Bayern Munich and AC Milan the final tie.
Liverpool have already played their quarter final opponents in this seasons competition – drawing 0-0 in Eindhoven and winning 2-0 at Anfield in the group stages. It is the draw most fans will have seen as the ‘easiest’ of the possible 7 opponents.
And with home advantage in the second leg fans will already be looking ahead to the potential semi final showdown with Chelsea. However, Rafa Benitez’s old club Valencia have home advantage in the second leg in that tie and with the likes of David Villa they could well see off the Londoners and give another exciting prospect with Benitez facing up to his old club for the first time since he left the Mestalla Stadium in 2004.
