Chelsea Preview: CL Semi Final First Leg

It’s the biggest game of the season as Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge for the first leg in the Champions League semi final in a repeat of 2005.

Two years ago a 0-0 draw at the Bridge was enough to see the Reds go through with a 1-0 win at Anfield in the second leg. A similar result will be what Rafa Benitez is looking for on Tuesday.

The two sides have already met three times this season, with Liverpool having the upper hand having won in the Charity Shield last August and the recent 2-0 home win, although the away match saw Chelsea win 1-0 courtesy of a Didier Drogba goal.

Rafa Benitez is expected to play Alvaro Arbeloa at left back following Fabio Aurelio’s injury against PSV, with John Arne Riise moving into left midfield and Steve Finnan coming back in at right back.

Steven Gerrard is likely to start on the right side of midfield, with Xabi Alonso, Momo Sissoko and Javier Mascherano competing for the two places in centre midfield.

Craig Bellamy could come back into the side to partner Dirk Kuyt or Peter Crouch up front.
