Mascherano missed Saturday’s trip to the Emirates Stadium, where the Reds and the Gunners played out a 1-1 draw for the third time this season.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez made eight changes on Saturday from the team that started against Arsene Wenger’s men last Wednesday night in the first leg of this tie.

The Reds will be without Daniel Agger, Harry Kewell and now Jermaine Pennant, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Arsenal continue to be without the long-term injured Thomas Rosicky, but both Robin van Persie and Abou Diaby have shrugged off injuries and could start tonight.
