Rafa expects low points for Champions

As the title race hots up for what looks like what could be the most exciting title race for quite a few years with Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United fighting close at the top of the table, Reds boss Rafa Benitez has predicted that this year’s Champions may finish with a lower than usual points tally.

All three title contenders have dropped what pundits would deem as ‘œunncessary’ points this season, losing and drawing more games than usual.

For example, Liverpool have dropped points at home to Stoke, Fulham and West Ham, yet remain four points clear at the top of the Premier League standings.

Benitez told the club’s official web site, “You can clearly see that there is not much of a points difference between a lot of teams. That means everyone can beat everyone.

“The managers are working better and the players understand the game more. Players know how to play against you in every game. That makes it more difficult.

“It could be that it takes fewer points to win the title because you can lose games you expect to win. This could be the situation at the end of the season.”

The title race continues for Liverpool next Monday night when the Reds take on Merseyside rivals Everton at Anfield.
