Rafa set to make changes

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez looks set to make changes to the starting line-up for tonight’s crunch Premier League clash at Wigan Athletic.

Benitez has hinted that he will rest players who started in Sunday’s FA Cup draw against Everton at Anfield, amidst a busy fixture schedule.

The Reds have Wigan away tonight, followed by the visit of Chelsea on Sunday, before the FA Cup fourth round replay at Goodison Park next Wednesday.

With league leaders Manchester United sitting three points clear, it is vital that Liverpool collect maximum points from their Premier League games this week.

And Benitez says that he is looking for players to step up and claim their place in the team for Sunday’s clash against Felipe Scolari’s men.

He told the club’s official web site, “Some of the players are a little bit tired after Everton but we have one more day and I am sure they will be ready.

“We will change some players, maybe – but it depends on each player. Some of them can be fit in two or three days, but some need maybe four days.

“I was talking with some players and they know this time is really important. You will have more injuries because the players will be tired, and maybe you pick up a few more knocks, so everyone has to be ready.

“If you do change players, everybody needs to show that they are ready to fight for their position.”

Wigan vs Liverpool kicks off at 7.45pm.
