Liverpool now the only challengers admits Ferguson

Alex Ferguson has today admitted Liverpool are the only real challengers to Manchester United’s crown in this seasons title race.

Although he is keeping one eye on Aston Villa “just in case” the canny Scottish boss of our North West rivals doesn’t feel that Chelsea or Arsenal are any longer in the title race.

Ferguson has said that he believes stability is key to any realistic battle for the Premier League title, and with Chelsea having recently handed Luis Felipe Scolari his P45, they are not exactly in the best of positions right now to make up the points difference opened up by both United and Liverpool – despite protestations to the contary by Scolari’s temporary replacement, Guus Hiddink.

On Scolari’s dismissal, Sir Alex was quoted in a United publication as claiming that Chelsea “played into our hands and that the title race now is going to be between ourselves and Liverpool.”

United face Fulham in their game-in-hand this evening, a win will take them five points clear.
