Torres injury latest

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres was substituted off in the second half of last nights 0-1 victory over Real Madrid as a precaution, Reds boss Rafa Benitez has confirmed.

Torres pulled up with an ankle problem during the first half and continued to struggle on it as the game progressed. Back in his home city, a frustrated Torres was brought off for Ryan Babel in 62nd minute.

It is thought however that Torres will be fine to face Middlesbrough in the Premier League on Saturday, though Rafa Benitez didn’t want to take any risks last night.

The boss told reporters after the game, “He twisted his ankle in the first half and we were waiting but we could see that he wasn’t fully fit and it would be a risk for the next games.”

Middlesbrough vs Liverpool kicks off at 3pm on Saturday, 28th February.
