Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun says it was vitally important the Reds got back to winning ways immediately after their opening day 2-1 defeat to Tottenham.
Rafael Benitez’s men continued their Premier League season with a 4-0 victory over Stoke City at Anfield last night and Benayoun said after the game there was more determination to win.
‘œIt was very important for us to win our first game at home, especially after what happened at Tottenham,’ he said.
‘œWe never expected to lose that game and so it was very important for us to recover quick and get that win. We want to start our season now.
‘œWe were lucky that we had a quick game to recover from the Tottenham game, we did many things better especially in the second half and we well deserved the win.
‘œWe wanted it more tonight I think. We ran more, we pressed more, we worked harder. The first half at Tottenham they had the ball, the possession for large parts of the game.
‘œToday it was different we moved the ball and we had good movement without the ball and this was the difference for us.’
Liverpool now have a few days rest before they face Aston Villa at home in their next Premier League encounter on Monday, 24th August. [Match Preview]
