Carra urging improvement

Jamie Carragher says Liverpool were outplayed in their 3-0 defeat to Espanyol on Sunday night and insists the final days of preparation before the news season kicks off must be used wisely.

The Reds have had an under-par pre-season campaign with defeats to Rapid Vienna and Espanyol, draws against St. Gallen and Thailand and only one victory, over Singapore.

They now face FC Lyn in Oslo on Wednesday night before Athletico Madrid at Anfield on Sunday in their final pre-season games.

Carragher says there’s a lot of room for improvement and for team to pick their game up, with just a week and a half until the new Premier League campaign gets underway.

On Sunday night’s defeat in Barcelona, he said, “Sometimes in a game of football you lose and you just have to hold your hands up and admit that you were beaten by the better side on the night. This was one of those occasions, so full credit to them. They played very well.

“It was a mixture of things really; it just wasn’t our night but it’s getting closer to the season now and we’ve got a couple of weeks to put it right.

“That’s what these games are all about, though, and hopefully we’ll be ready when the season kicks off.”
