New £18million Liverpool signing Alberto Aquilani is yet to start light training on his recovery from an ankle injury, but Rafa Benitez is pleased with the Italian’s progress.
Aquilani was signed just days after Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso completed his £30million move to Real Madrid, but moved from Roma with a troubled ankle injury.
He is expected to be able to make his first team debut for the Reds around the beginning of October and today Benitez gave fans an update of how he is getting on.
He said, “Alberto is improving. We were talking before about six to eight weeks and after a few weeks his ankle is much better but he will need time.
“He’s in the swimming pool and in the gym and working with the physios but he’s not jogging yet.
“We cannot put a date on things and it’s important to just see how he progresses.”
