Lucas: “Don’t underestimate Debreceni”

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva says although little is known about the Reds’ first Champions League opponents, Debreceni, their ability should not be undervalued.

Liverpool take on the Hungarian side at Anfield tomorrow night in the first game of the group stages of this season’s tournament. It is the first time Debreceni have appeared in the tournament and fourteen years since the last time a Hungarian club did.

But Lucas believes that if Debreceni had enough quality to qualify for the tournament, they must have something if to offer and besides, the pressure is off for them – they have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

He said, “If they are playing in the Champions League they will have some quality.

“Maybe they will know more about us than we know about them so that makes them dangerous.

“Our staff will have been working to get videos of them and we will be ready.”

This year’s Champions League Final will be played at Real Madrid’s Bernabeu Stadium in Spain, and with the Reds making it to two finals out of the last four, Lucas is hoping for another shot this time.

He added, “We have got so close to the final and hopefully this year we can finally get there.”
