Mascherano: Don’t stop me now

Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano says Liverpool cannot afford to rest on their celebrations of the 2-0 victory over Manchester Utd and much continue to show such determination.

The Reds ended their run of four straight defeats by beating their arch rivals at Anfield on Sunday and with Rafa Benitez’s men still six points from Premier League leaders Chelsea, Mascherano says the improved performance must continue.

He said, “It was difficult for us to lose four games in a row. But now I say, ‘let’s start again’. Now we have won we cannot stop, and we’ll try to keep going. We are pulling together.

“If we want to fight for something we have to play every game like that. We cannot be relaxed with this win, that is the message.”

Mascherano is suspended for Liverpool’s next fixture – the Carling Cup game away to Arsenal on Wednesday night – after being sent off in the dying seconds against Utd at the weekend.
