Match Preview: Fiorentina (h)

We may not be able to progress any further in this season’s Champions League, but there’s still the important task of getting a confidence boosting victory over Fiorentina on Wednesday night before the league clash with Arsenal on Sunday.

Rafa Benitez will give midfielder Alberto Aquilani his full debut against an opposition familiar to the Italian. It will be interesting to see where exactly Rafa deploys him, and indeed who makes way from the midfield.

Fernando Torres is included in the squad for the first time in six matches and will be on the bench tonight. David Ngog is expected to start up front.

There could be starts for Martin Skrtel and Fabio Aurelio, with Jamie Carragher and Emiliano Insua given a much needed rest.

There could also be a surprise start for youngster Stephen Darby at right back.

Ryan Babel is also in line for a start tonight.

When these two sides met in their only other meeting of any kind back in September in Florence, Fiorentina ran out 2-0 winners. Both goals coming from Stevan Jovetic.

Jotevic though is ruled out for the visitors, along with Zanetti, Mutu, Gamberini and Vargas.

The match is live on Sky Sports (UK).
