Torres doubts for Spain

Spain could be without Liverpool striker Fernando Torres for the start of the World Cup in South Africa this summer, it has been revealed.

The Reds striker recently underwent surgery on a troublesome knee injury, which kept him out of the remainder of Liverpool’s games for the end of the season – including a Europa League semi-final tie against his former club, Atletico Madrid.

Now Peter Brukner, Liverpool’s new head of sport science, has cast doubt on whether he will be ready for Spain’s opening game against Switzerland on 16th June.

Brukner said, “Whether he will be fit for the first game or not is uncertain.

“But, if he continues to progress the way he is, he should be fit to play at some stage during the World Cup.”
