Maxi & Masch start for Argies

June 12, 2010 - Johannesburg, South Africa - epa02198836 Argentina's head coach Diego Maradona (suit) congratulates players Lionel Messi (facing L), Maxi Rodriguez (R) and Javier Mascherano (2nd R) after the FIFA World Cup 2010 group B preliminary round match between Argentina and Nigeria at the Ellis Park stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, 12 June 2010. Argentina won 1-0.

Liverpool duo Maxi Rodriguez and Javier Mascherano are in action for Argentina as they take on Mexico in the World Cup this evening.

Winger Maxi has played himself into Diego Maradona’s first choice eleven with some good performances in the group stages, while Mascherano is the South American’s captain.

The winner of this match will face Germany after they hammered England 4-1 earlier today in Bloemfontein. England were especially poor in defence where Liverpool’s Glen Johnson had a miserable match before being subbed with a possible hamstring strain. Steven Gerrard captained the side but was left frustrated out on the left of midfield again.

England’s biggest ever World Cup defeat was inflicted by a classy German side.

Argentina vs Mexico kicks off at 7:30pm (UK).
