Reds midfielder on verge of £4.5million exit

Liverpool are set to part company with Spanish winger Albert Riera, according to the Olympiakos manager.

Ewald Lienen says Riera will join the Greek outfit this week, with reports suggesting the Reds have accepted an offer of around £4.5million.

“Unless there is a major surprise then he will be our player,” said Lienen.

“He is a great player who has proven his worth both at club level and for the Spanish national side.”

Riera fell out with former manager Rafa Benitez last season and although was included amongst the substitutes for Roy Hodgson’s first game in charge against Grasshoppers this evening, did not make an appearance.

Riera signed for Liverpool on transfer deadline day in September 2008 for around £8million, but failed to cement a first team place.

In his two years at the club, Riera made 56 appearances, scoring 5 times.
