No sooner is one more transfer complete, with the unveiling of Joe Cole during half-time of yesterday’s goalless draw with Grasshoppers in Switzerland, than the Rumour Mill begins to churn again.

Top of Roy Hodgson’s priorities will be to find the club a left-back solution following the departures of Emiliano Insua and Fabio Aurelio this summer.

Several newspapers report this morning that Hodgson has his eye on Manchester City left-back Wayne Bridge. City recently signed Aleksandar Kolarov from Lazio for £17million, so Bridge could see his first team opportunities lessened this coming campaign.

The former England defender was signed by Man City in January 2009 for around £10million, but injury kept the 29-year-old out of much of the latter half of last season.

Inter Milan are reported to have opened negotiations for Javier Mascherano. Former Reds boss Rafa Benitez is keen to take the Argentina captain to the San Siro with him.

Inter are thought to be ready to offer around £25million for the midfielder, with Liverpool valuing the 26-year-old at around £30million.

West Ham look set to beat Liverpool in the race for French striker Loic Remy, with an improved bid to Nice of around £13million.

The Reds have been linked with the 23-year-old, who has now attracted the interest of Arsenal following the sale of Eduardo this week. It is reported Liverpool have offered midfielders Nabil El Zhar and Damien Plessis in a part exchange deal.

Meanwhile Hodgson has confirmed that talks are underway regarding the sale of Spanish winger Albert Riera to Olympiakos.

He said, “Albert Riera did not play as a precaution because negotiations are ongoing with Olympiacos.”

As we reported last night, Olympiakos are thought to have made an offer of around £4.5million for the 28-year-old, who cost Liverpool around £8million in 2008.

And finally, Liverpool confirmed the signature of Rangers’ young defender Danny Wilson on a three year contract yesterday.
