Skrtel signs new Liverpool deal and targets title

Liverpool have been boosted by the news this morning that defender Martin Skrtel has committed to the club until at least 2014, by signing a new contract at Anfield.

The Slovakia international signed from Russian side Zenit St Petersburg for £6million in January 2008 and is now a regular face in the Reds starting line-up.

The deal he signs is a two year extension to his current deal, which was due to expire in 2012.

And now Skrtel has the Premier League title in his sights. He says, “The spirit is very good and we showed that against Arsenal with a great performance. We can build on that and carry it on.

“We have quality in the dressing room and I know we will do better this year.

“Everyone plays football to win trophies. Playing for Liverpool is a big motivation for everyone and we will do everything we can to win the Premier League. We have the highest targets – to win everything.”
