Four left-backs injured for Liverpool

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson faces a selection headache ahead of this Sunday’s must-win Premier League clash with Blackpool, with no less than four players who can play at left-back struggling with injuries.

Fabio Aurelio is definitely out of action with an ongoing achilles problem, whilst new signing Paul Konchesky misses the game with a hamstring injury picked up in last Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Sunderland.

Able to play left-back if called upon, Daniel Agger is struggling with a groin problem and missed Thursday’s trip to Utrecht in the Europa League. Martin Kelly covered for the Dane, but now Kelly has a knee injury, picked up in last night’s goalless bore draw in Holland.

Hodgson could call upon youngsters Chris Mavinga or Jack Robinson, unless he wants to test Jamie Carragher or Glen Johnson’s versatility in the left-back role.

After last night’s game, the Reds boss said, “Kelly has got a slight problem with his knee so that could be another left back out for us.

“I don’t know how bad that is so we’ll have to wait and see.

“On the positive side though Steven Gerrard will be back and we’ll be raring to go on Sunday.”

Liverpool vs Blackpool gets underway at 3pm on Sunday, 3rd October at Anfield.
