Liverpool confirmed they have reached a deal with Ajax over the purchase of Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez this afternoon, with the fee believed to be around £23million, making him the Reds’ most expensive signing ever.
He is expected on Merseyside later to undergo a medical and put pen to paper on a deal at Anfield.
24-year-old Suarez started his career in Uruguay with Nacional in Montevideo, before moving to Groningen. He signed for Ajax for €7.5million in August 2007.
He has won 38 caps for his country, scoring 16 times and record this season for Ajax is good – 7 goals from 13 games.
