Dalglish to play it careful with Suarez

Kenny Dalglish has admitted new £23million striker Luis Suarez should not perhaps have played the full 90 minutes against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

Suarez impressed the Kop on his full debut for the club, causing problems for Wigan’s defence and htiting the woodwork twice.

However, Suarez hasn’t played much competitive football over the last couple of months due to a suspension and the Dutch league’s winter break.

Dalglish says, however, that he has been delighted at the 24-year-old Uruguayan’s start to his Liverpool career.

“It was maybe unfair to keep Luis on for 90 minutes because he’s not had too many games but we kept hoping he would get a goal,” Dalglish said after the 1-1 draw against Wigan. “His energy and enthusiasm and movement is going to cause a lot of people a lot of problems.

“He never did anything which surprised us because he didn’t do anything we’ve not seen before. He is a good footballer playing with good footballers so I am not going to be surprised by anything that he does. He will be a favourite with supporters I think.”

Liverpool have two Europa League games now, away then home to Sparta Prague on the 17th and 24th February, before a Premier League trip to West Ham on Sunday, 27th February.
