Gerrard undergoes surgery – out for one month

Liverpool will be without captain Steven Gerrard after the midfielder underwent surgery on his troublesome groin injury.

Gerrard aggrevated the injury during Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, missing a handful of games since and not being 100% match fit for the others.

After missing last night’s 1-0 defeat to Braga in the Europa League, Gerrard now looks set to miss the return leg at Anfield next Thursday, Premier League trips to Sunderland and West Brom, and two England internationals.

“The decision was made following consultation with a specialist,” read a club statement.

Get well soon, Stevie.
