Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva says Raul Meireles is his player of the season, heaping praise on the Portuguese international.
Lucas himself was awarded both the Standard Chartered Liverpool Player of the Season award and the Player of the Season award voted by members of the This Is Anfield forums.
But the Brazilian says Meireles, in his first season at the club following his £11.5million move from Porto last summer, is his pick of the season.
“It’s really hard to pick one player after this season,” Lucas said.
“Dirk was very important and scored a lot of goals. Pepe was very consistent and then there’s Raul.
“I’d pick Raul because it was his first season for Liverpool and he has been fantastic. He has scored some really important goals and deserves it.
“I know how difficult it is to come to Anfield and play. He has come in and shown everyone he’s a really good player.”
