Line-up vs Guangdong: Fighting for places

Kenny Dalglish names a makeshift line-up for Liverpool’s first pre-season friendly of the summer away to Guangdong Sunray Cave this afternoon.

Kick-off is at 1pm in Guangzhou, a three hour drive north of the border into mainland China from Hong Kong.

Dalglish names several players looking to fight for first team places this season, with some on the list looking to fight for their place at the club.

With Pepe Reina recovering from a recent operation, Peter Gulacsi starts in net for the Reds with a young defence surrounding captain Jamie Carragher.

Christian Poulsen is given the nod in midfield alongside Jay Spearing, Jonjo Shelvey and Joe Cole.

Dani Pacheco returns from his loan spell at Norwich to assist David Ngog up front.

New signing Charlie Adam should make his debut for the Reds and is named among the substitutes along with the returning Alberto Aquilani and striker Andy Carroll.

Expect plenty of changes at half time.

Liverpool: Gulacsi, Flanagan, Kelly, Carragher, Wilson, Poulsen, Spearing, Shelvey, Cole, Pacheco, Ngog.

Subs: Jones, Hansen, Agger, Kyrgiakos, Robinson, Wisdom, Adam, Aquilani, Coady, Kuyt, Carroll.
