Raul Meireles has left Liverpool and signed a deal with Chelsea on a four-year contract.
The Portuguese midfielder handed in a written transfer request on transfer deadline day today, news that was only broken by Liverpool with 30 minutes of the window remaining open.
Meireles brings to an end a successful year at Liverpool since being signed by Roy Hogdson from FC Porto for £11m last summer.
He is thought to have signed for Chelsea for a fee of around £12.75 million with the paperwork only finalised in the closing moments of the transfer window, which closed at 11pm tonight.
Meireles scored Liverpool’s only goal in a 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last season, just days after Fernando Torres had left Liverpool for the Blues.
Meireles made a total of 44 appearances for Liverpool, scoring five goals.
