Henderson to replace Lampard in England squad

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson is to replace injured Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard in England’s squad for Euro 2012.

Henderson’s inclusion in Roy Hodgson’s squad takes the total number of Liverpool players heading to the Ukraine and Poland to five; joining captain Steven Gerrard, winger Stewart Downing, full back Glen Johnson and forward Andy Carroll.

Henderson, 21, was signed from Sunderland last summer and had an indifferent first season at Anfield; showing much better form towards the end of the season and when used in his more natural centre midfield position.

England have a huge injury crisis in midfield following Lampard and Gareth Barry’s exclusion through injury. Their first choice duo of Gerrard and Scott Parker both have had various injury concerns of late and so Henderson could end up playing more of a role than anticipated.

Good luck, Jordan.
