January Transfer Window Day 29
Here’s the latest LFC transfer rumours and reports – the window closes on Thursday night.
Philippe Coutinho – From Internazionale
Inter’s club president Massimo Moratti said on Monday “Sometimes players are able to get more playing time, and so I think it could be a great opportunity for Coutinho and a deal that might work out well for us.”
The Guardian and The Times report that Coutinho arrived on Merseyside on Monday and completed a medical, with only the work permit application required to complete the transfer.
Tom Ince – From Blackpool
The young winger has been linked to Liverpool throughout the whole January window, but talks stalled a while ago since neither club has been willing to budge on the transfer fee. According to The Mirror, Reading are willing to meet Blackpool’s £8m valuation and now appear to be favourites for his signature.
With Liverpool on the verge of signing Philippe Coutinho from Inter and Blackpool steadily bumping up the asking price, it could be best to walk away from this one and focus on other areas.
Ince was pictured on twitter in the crowd for Liverpool’s defeat at Oldham.
Alex Pritchard – From Tottenham
The Spurs youngster’s contract expires this summer, and according to Standard Sport Liverpool are interested in the 19 year old midfielder who impressed in Tottenham‘s 4-1 NextGen victory against Barcelona.
Spurs already have a strong midfield, and the arrival of Lewis Holtby from Schalke will not make it any easier for the youngster to get his chance. With Alex Inglethorpe – former youth team coach for the London club – now being Liverpool’s U21 manager, it is possible the interest could be genuine.
Sebastian Coates – To Gremio
Speculation continues regarding his future at the club. Brendan Rodgers has earlier hinted about a loan move, and repeated this at Monday’s press conference ahead of Wednesday’s game at Arsenal. Gremio is the latest club mentioned and although Rodgers didn’t confirm anything, he was clear about the big defender needing more game time.
Coates himself has also been clear about his situation. He was quoted in The Mirror saying:
“I’m going through a complicated moment here at Liverpool.
“I want to play for the Uruguayan national team and I must play for my team to achieve that.
“I do know the other defenders are playing really well and I must wait my chance. But, again, I want to play now.”
Time is obviously the main issue now: Liverpool are a bit short in numbers at the back, and with three days left of the window they cannot afford to let anyone leave without having a replacement lined up. Sevilla’s Federico Fazio has been named as a potential candidate.
And the rest:
The Daily Mail claim Liverpool are one of many clubs interested in Aston Villa‘s Christian Benteke. The Belgian striker has been a bit of a revelation so far this season, and has attracted interest from some of the bigger clubs in the league.
