Liverpool are set to send defender Andre Wisdom on-loan to Derby County, according to a report in the Mirror today.
Wisdom, 20, had been tipped to be sent on loan to gain valuable regular football in the Championship at the end of the summer transfer window.
However, when Glen Johnson picked up a high ankle sprain in Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Manchester Utd earlier this season, the stops were put on Wisdom’s departure.
With Johnson back from injury, and Brendan Rodgers having trialed the likes of Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling in Liverpool’s right-wing-back position, the door looks open for Wisdom to leave.
The England Under-21 captain could spend the rest of the season on-loan at Pride Park and will join a number of Reds playing for other clubs this season.
The Mirror report:
McClaren made an approach for highly-rated Wisdom – who can play at right back or centre half – despite his side’s big win at Watford.
Wisdom has made 22 appearances for Liverpool’s first team, scoring 1 goal.
The move would also be seen as a sweetener for reported Liverpool target, Derby midfielder Will Hughes.
Derby are 8th in the Championship with 18 points from their first 12 games, having beaten Watford away 3-2 in their last game.
