Liverpool fans were breathing a huge sigh of relief on Monday night with the news that defender Mamadou Sakho has not suffered an ACL injury.
Sakho has been Liverpool’s best player since the arrival of Jurgen Klopp, with the new manager clearly seeing his qualities where Brendan Rodgers previously did not.
“I would prefer to lose 4-1 and keep him in the team but it was the situation and now we have to see,” said Klopp after Sunday’s game, showing how highly he rates the Frenchman after he was forced off in the first half against Crystal Palace.
News on Monday night suggests there’s no ACL injury, but the defender will see a consultant on Tuesday for a full diagnosis of the problem to see how long he is likely to be out for.
Sakho though has done some damage to ligaments, which means the Reds will be without the Frenchman for a period of time – but it’s a relief it’s not another season-ending ACL injury.
Whilst Sakho may not have torn his ACL be aware Sturridge never tore his ankle ligaments… Damaged ligaments still mean a length sideline

Klopp will be desperately hoping that surgery isn't required. #Sakho but #Ibe expected to be fit for Man City clash. #LFC (Echo)

Not sure whether that’s the strong winds or the collective sigh of relief emanating from Liverpool re: Sakho right now. #lfc

Not relieved about Sakho yet. What if it's an MCL? Or other damage. Rather chill and wait for conf ?

Glad it's not an ACL for Sakho but we'll still be without him for a while. Unstable defence and a weak midfield. Good luck Jurgen.

@BrentV_RSA when you land the studs are designed to hold you to the ground. Hybrid boots (Sakho wears them) grip you harder…
