Alexandre Lacazette link returns in the Sunday papers

Alexandre Lacazette was a player often linked with joining the Reds throughout last summer, but a move never materialised.

It’s ok, though, we got Christian Benteke instead…

The Sunday Mirror now claim that Liverpool will “battle” with Merseyside rivals Everton for the Frenchman’s signature. If there really was this often media touted battle for a player, there’d only be one winner there!

With Benteke almost certain to be moved on this summer, and ongoing concerns over Daniel Sturridge‘s fitness, Liverpool could opt to add a forward this summer and Lacazette would be a more similar option to Sturridge – more suited than Benteke.

The 24-year-old has not enjoyed as impressive a season as he did in 2014/15, but he has still found the net 16 times in all competitions.

The Lyon man is joint-second with Edinson Cavani in the Ligue 1 scoring charts, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic topping the pile.

While not necessarily as proven as some, Lacazette would be an excellent purchase, with his pace, power and link-up play well-suited to Klopp’s style.

Klopp though spoke last month of being more interested in signing a winger than another forward this summer.

The boss may see Sturridge, Divock Origi, Danny Ings and Roberto Firmino as enough forward options.

This report on Lacazette seems hugely like Sunday paper-filling and no substance whatsoever.
