Liverpool to face 2 Premier League sides in Asia Trophy this pre-season

Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Hong Kong will see them play two of Crystal Palace, West Brom and Leicester City, according to reports on Monday.

The Reds will fly out to East Asia in July to take part in the Premier League Asia Trophy, as part of their pre-season preparations.

There they will play two of three other Premier League sides, with the Telegraph reporting that these will be Palace, West Brom and Leicester.

While the report claims that the Reds will play all of their lesser opponents, they are only set for two fixtures: a semi-final and either a final or a third-place playoff.

Southampton were initially mooted to take part, while Chinese Super League heavyweights Shanghai SIPG were involved but have since pulled out, with Palace stepping up after avoiding relegation.

This should provide Jurgen Klopp‘s side with a manageable early schedule in pre-season, with Liverpool also likely to play a series of domestic friendlies earlier in July.

They will then return to take on Hertha Berlin on July 29, before taking part in the Audi Cup in August.

There, they will play two of Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and an as-yet unnamed side, believed to be AC Milan, over two days on August 1 and 2.

Liverpool will then begin their Premier League campaign on the weekend of August 12, before kicking off their pursuit of the Champions League with a playoff first leg on either August 15 or 16.

After a successful 2016/17, Klopp and his side are set to fly out to Australia for a post-season friendly with Sydney FC on May 24.

The club named their strong 25-man squad for the trip on Monday morning.
