New signing included as Liverpool confirm 23-man squad for friendly against Napoli

Liverpool’s new signing Harvey Elliott is in the squad for Sunday’s friendly against Napoli, but several youngsters from the US tour are not involved.

Jurgen Klopp‘s team step up preparations for the new season once again, with this evening’s game in Edinburgh against Serie A opposition.

With just one further fixture—against Lyon on Wednesday—before the Community Shield and the true commencement of 2019/20, it’s a big game to ensure as many of the first-team squad get toward full fitness as possible.

The boss has selected a 23-man squad, though it’s reasonable to assume some will play a bigger role than others.

While Elliott is in and the likes of Bobby Duncan, Sepp van den Berg and Ki-Jana Hoever are all involved, five of the younger players have been left out after the three-match tour of the United States.

Goalkeeper duo Dan Atherton and Jakub Ojrzynski are omitted, as is central defender Nat Phillips.

The bigger surprise, perhaps, is that Curtis Jones and Ben Woodburn have both been left behind—Jones in particular was impressive up until now in pre-season, playing as both a No. 8 and a wide forward.

Kick-off this evening is at 5pm BST and Joanna Durkan will be providing live coverage of the game here on This Is Anfield.
