The Brazilian attacker was subject of bids from Liverpool during the January transfer window but current club Shaktar Donetsk set the asking price at €70m (£53m).

Liverpool offered €32m and a €4m bonus, according to Shaktar’s general director, Sergiy Palkin.

The player himself openly discussed his desire to move to Merseyside, saying: “It is a huge club, so many great players have passed through here,” he said.

“It would be an honour to defend the Liverpool shirt.”

Yesterday, Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande broke the Asian transfer record by signing Atletico Madrid’s Jackson Martinez for £31 million.

Now, reports in Brazil, say Teixeira is considering the offer from Jiangsu Suning, which would eclipse Martinez’s fee.

Guangzhou, who are managed by compatriot Luiz Felipe Scolari, are also said to be interested in Teixeira.

The Chinese transfer window closes on February 26th.
