Video: Jurgen Klopp and Emre Can pre-Augsburg press conference

on 18.02.2016

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was joined by midfielder Emre Can for the pre-match press conference ahead of Thursday’s Europa League tie against FC Augbsurg – with both Germans speaking in their native language.

The two Germans answered questions from a packed media room in Augsburg’s WWK Arena, with Klopp having spoken separately to British journalists before flying to Bavaria on Wednesday.

Klopp explained how he feels that the Europa League is the best opportunity for his side to get into next season’s Champions League – with the Reds nine points behind fourth-placed Man City, and indeed contributing to the unpredictability of the Premier League season.

Klopp is without defender Dejan Lovren and midfielder Adam Lallana for the game, but Lucas Leiva is back available.

The boss is expected to make just one change to the side that beat Aston Villa 6-0 on Sunday, that being Steven Caulker replacing Kolo Toure in defence.

Taking a first-leg advantage back to Merseyside has added importance with next week’s return leg arriving just three days before the League Cup Final at Wembley. A decent win tonight would mean some players can have 10 days to rest before the clash against City.

Tonight’s game is live on BT Sport Europe in England.

  1. I have to say that Caulker and Sakho at the back doesn’t fill me with confidence. Here’s hoping we defend really well further up the pitch.

    • You can please some of the people some of the time but you can’t please all of the people all of the time. It is my belief reading some comments on here you can’t please anyone at all at any time. I actually think the two you mention will do a fine job together especially as apparently Caulker is a Klopp choice. So

    • I’ve always been a fan of Caulker, he’s never reached the kind of form I think he’s capable of though. Joining us on loan is a huge opportunity for him to get his career back on track, I really hope he takes it.

      • I hope so as well. Obviously, Klopp thinks he is capable enough. My main concern is how nervous he looked last time out, and Sakho tends to seem a bit nervy to me as well. Hopefully, Klopp will know how to give them both the confidence they need for a good performance, and my confidence in the pairing will be bolstered as well.

  2. I’m not sure where the ‘Klopp is expected to make just one change’ comes from or did I miss something, it’s what I would have expected but I’ve seen nothing to suggest it will be Caulker replacing Kolo. If it is I’m cool with it and assuming Klopp has his reasons…

  3. Good god, the translator was awfull. He boiled down Kloppo’s answers to the basic core meaning and often dropped whole parts, wich changed the meaning in a way, that Klopp’s cheaky comments became almost rude replies. And Kloppo was quite funny this time around.
