Following Steven Gerrard being named PFA Player of the Year by his fellow professionals yesterday, there was further good news for Liverpool today.

Manager Rafael Benitez has been named Coach of the Year for 2005 by Spanish newspaper la Comunidad de Madrid at the illustrious ‘˜Seven Stars of Sport Awards’ in Madrid.

After receiving the title, Benitez told the official Liverpool FC web site, “I am very proud to accept this award, but it’s recognition for everyone at Liverpool including the players, backroom staff and the supporters, who have been magnificent since I came to the club.

“I’m very happy at Liverpool and enjoying life in England.”

Congratulations, Rafa.
