Cisse departure imminent

Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse is expected to finalize a switch to Marseille on Tuesday, ending months of rumours about the French international’s departure from Anfield.

Cisse claims that Rafael Benitez is forcing him out of Liverpool after failing to show the sort of form that made former Reds boss Gerard Houllier sign him in the summer of 2004.

It is thought that Marseille will initially take Cisse on a season long-loan as he is still to recover from a broken leg, sustained shortly before the World Cup whilst on international duty.

The deal will give Marseille the option to buy the former Auxerre forward at the end of the loan spell.

Cisse scored in his final match for Liverpool during the FA Cup Final success over West Ham in Cardiff. His departure will make the famous number 9 shirt available again with either new signing Craig Bellamy or former Reds number 9 Robbie Fowler the favourites to be handed it.

Good luck Djibril, from everyone at This Is Anfield.
