Benitez wants to stay

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has insisted that he wants to continue as Reds manager despite the ongoing boardroom politics that casts a shadow over Anfield these days.

A power battle between co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett appears to have put the club in “turmoil”, but on the pitch Benitez has lead the club to its third Champions League semi-final in his four year reign.

And amid speculation that when ownership is resolved, Benitez may face the Anfield boot or even leave himself, the Spaniard has denied any chance of this happening.

“I’m really pleased and happy here and want to stay,” he said.

Benitez’s current contract at the club expires in 2010.

Today Benitez takes his side to Craven Cottage where Liverpool meet Fulham in the Premier League. Kick-off is 3pm.
