Reds confirm Javier appeal

Liverpool have confirmed that they have appealed against the Football Association’s decision to ban midfielder Javier Mascherano for a further two games, following his reaction to his red card against Manchester United.

Mascherano reacted angrily when referee Steve Bennett sent him off during the Red’s recent 3-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

But the club today revealed they have appealed against the two game extension handed to the Argentine international, meaning he is suspended for tomorrow’s trip to Arsenal in the Premier League.

A club spokesman said, “We have put in the appeal and requested that the penalty not be set aside pending the outcome.

“Consequently Javier is suspended for tomorrow’s game at Arsenal.”
