Gerrard impresses for England

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard scored England’s second goal in a 2-0 win over USA at Wembley on Wednesday night. The Reds midfielder was deployed on the left side as Fabio Capello used a similar system to Rafa Benitez, with Wayne Rooney more central behind Jermaine Defoe.

Gerrard’s goal, his 13th for England, may have provided insight into what Liverpool fans can expect to see next season, with Gareth Barry’s through ball for Gerrard perhaps being a sign of things to come as Rafa Benitez continues his pursuit of the Aston Villa captain.

Gerrard was England’s most impressive player on the night and clearly the man of the match.

Peter Crouch played the last 20 minutes, former Liverpool player Stephen Warnock made his first international squad but was an unused sub.

England play Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday in another pointless friendly.
