Liverpool’s first competitive match of the season sees them travel to Liege for the first leg of their Champions League qualifier against Belgium champions Standard Liege.

Rafa Benitez could be without skipper Steven Gerrard, along with the Oympic duty trio of Lucas, Mascherano and Babel, meaning Damien Plessis would line-up alongside Xabi Alonso in midfield for the Reds.

Gerrard has travelled with the squad though and Benitez has said he has a good chance of being fit after he trained with the squad on Tuesday night.

One player not in Belgium is full back Steve Finnan who is reported to have had an argument with Benitez over the player’s involvement in any deal for Gareth Barry. The Irish international is reported to be keen to remain at Anfield.

Kick off on Wednesday is 8.05pm, UK time. The match is live on ITV1.

Likely Line-Up: Reina, Arbeloa, Carragher, Agger, Dossena, Kuyt, Gerrard, Alonso, Benayoun, Torres, Keane.
