Argentine battle ahead

Real Madrid defender Gabriel Heinze has told his Argentina national teammate, Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano, that it is game on when the two sides meet at the Bernabeau this Wednesday night.

The two European giants come head to head in the first leg of their Champions League second round encounter and Henize, a former Manchester United player who has been linked with a move to Anfield in the past, is adamant he’ll get one over on Mascherano.

He told press, “I spoke with Mascherano the other day and he is optimistic about the game. He says that we should be preparing ourselves, but I believe that is wrong. We are going to win at the Bernabeu.

“I think we are playing Liverpool at just the right time, but we know it is not going to be easy. We have got to try and make our home advantage count and have to mount pressure on the Liverpool goal from the first minute.

“In this type of game we have to exploit all the options that we have because they will do the same thing at Anfield in the second leg.

“For me this is an important game because I have played for an English team and I want to get a victory. I am happy at Madrid and my dream is to send Liverpool out of the competition.”

Real Madrid vs Liverpool gets underway at 7.45pm on Wednesday night.
